About
It is known that people with migrant background are underrepresented in sport activities at different rensponsability levels. Since the White Paper on Sports (2007) these issues are presented: “the accessibility of sport activity needs to be ensured for all citizens (…) the specific needs and situation of under-represented groups must be addressed”. In fact, European scholars support the hypothesis on the benefits of sport for ethnic inclusion.
The participants of the “Sport Trainers Squared” project will determine methods that can be used to prepare people with migrant background to become sport trainers. The initiative identifies the existing knowledge of sport coaches in order to train migrant individuals and elaborate an online course based on their needs. Most importantly, it aims at empowering migrants individuals and prepare them to become Sport Instructors through ETS, which also will help their further professional activation.

Regarding the project’s agenda, firstly, partners will carry out a cross-country research in order to identify the needs of the target groups: people with migrant background and sport trainers. They have to assess their existing knowledge, as well as methods and practices which can be used for their professional development.
Then an educational curriculum for sport coaches and educators will be designed and tested in a pilot experience in each partner country (with 5 participants). The resulting format will be transformed into an online course integrated in the project’s web platform, so other sport coaches will have the chance of completing the training and receiving a certification.
Finally, the sport coaches who participated in the test implements some empowerment activities with local migrant individuals, summed up in a training format, which aims at validating the adequacy of the training.
